Form Meets Function in Piatto Wine Glass Profile

Elegant wine glass profile: Piatto Coffee Table with eco-certified hardwood battens and Safety Yellow frames.
“The details are not the details. They make the design.”
Charles Eames

As a design-led company, Street Furniture Australia seeks simplicity and beauty in all our products. Here we take a closer look at the unique design features of our Piatto range, and why it has such broad appeal.
Many elements have been thoughtfully incorporated to ensure we meet the high standards of safety, accessibility and durability required of our products.
Wine Glass Profile
Perhaps Piatto’s most unique detail is the wine glass edge profile of the Piatto Table and Stool. Battens are neatly encased within an elegant ‘wine glass’ curvature.
The profile serves a dual purpose. Firstly, encapsulated battens conceal and protect the ends – important for aesthetics and longevity.
Additionally, this deep rounded edge means tables and stools are very visible to small children – particularly important near play areas. The safety benefits are significant when compared to thinner, sharper table tops that are increasingly common in the outdoor furniture space.

No Sharp Edges Anywhere
The solid top Stool, while thinner than the battened Stool, still benefits from the subtle wineglass profile. This gentle ‘rounding off’ creates a soft edge, and as it’s cast, there’s no risk of injury from burs underneath when you pick the stool up and move it around.

Tabletop à la Carte
Piatto Tables and Stools come with a choice of battened or solid tops.
Battens can be specified to complement a suite of furniture, with two profile options provided to match select Street Furniture Australia ranges. Pair the 85×30 batten profile with the Piatto and Park range, and the 63×30 with Linea, Aria or Mall. Choose from coloured aluminium, aluminium woodgrain or real timber.
Solid tops appeal for outdoor dining and educational projects, with the eating, writing and drawing-friendly surface. Perforations in the solid top Stool, coupled with a gentle dome shape, allow water to drain off easily.

Flexible Fixings
Piatto products can be fixed to the ground (surface, subsurface or core drilled), but are also robust and weighty enough to be left movable, facilitating social interaction.
For the freestanding Chair, Table and Stool, skids are mechanically fixed – departing from the pop-in skids often used on freestanding furniture. We found these tended to pop out with time and use. To maintain a smooth base design and disguise the mechanical fixed bolt for the skids we designed caps that sit within the divet, flush with the cast base form. The tolerance needed to be perfect to fit snugly and achieve the flushed finish.
Should the custodian require the option to switch between moveable and fixed furniture – important for Councils, multi-use spaces and new-build schools – specify the freestanding cast base and exchange the skids and caps with the fixings, as required.

Incredible Strength
Each Piatto component has been strengthened and tested to ensure it can withstand vandalism and perform 24/7 in the public realm – no need to bring it in at night.
In the case of the Piatto range, many years of research, development and learnings from earlier products – in particular the evergreen Cafe range – gives us confidence that Piatto products will stand the test of time.
