Davies Harrington Design has created a new courtyard space for the MIT campus on Sussex Street in Sydney.
Michelle Davies, Designer, says student wellbeing was at the heart of the brief right from the beginning of the project.
“The courtyard is central to this in that it acts as a space of rejuvenation between classes,” she says.
“Lush plantings, vibrant colour and natural wood materials create a sense of calm. The Street Furniture Australia benches bring a splash of fun and an opportunity for students to mingle and enjoy all this space has to offer.”
Eight plinth-mounted Mall Seats, with battens powder coated in Viper Green, are installed on a ledge that runs the length of the courtyard.
Mall Mitred Slim Benches fit snugly around planter boxes in a U-shape. The corners meet at 90 degree angles, with stepped battens. The nine benches feature battens powder coated in Brilliant Yellow and Lycra Strip.
“The new courtyard provides a vibrant and inviting space for students to relax during class breaks, it is also being utilised on occasion as an outdoor study area,” says Campus Director Lyndall Benton.
“Staff and students have expressed their gratitude for this unique city escape, which will soon be accentuated with a matching green and yellow table tennis area and wall art.”
Frames for all the furniture are in low-maintenance anti-mar Textura Monument.
