Aria Seats and Cafe Round Tables and Stools are installed in the streets surrounding Flemington Station in Homebush West, NSW, as part of a refresh by Strathfield Council.
“Furniture and other urban infrastructure is critical to placemaking – it provides patrons with functional amenity and dedicates a space to the desired purpose,” says Benjamin Ewins, Landscape Architect with Strathfield Council.
Council has offered opportunities to sit by yourself, with a friend or a larger group. A series of single Aria Seats and larger curved configurations using 45 degree connector panels are installed. Cafe settings allow more people to sit, work or eat together outdoors.
The Aria Seats feature ‘Wood Without Worry’ aluminium woodgrain battens in Spotted Gum. This low-maintenance timber alternative has a softening effect, says Ewins.
“Natural looking materials are an important factor, particularly within heavily urbanised areas. Introducing softer looking materials can improve the space,” he says.
Where timber battens must be regularly oiled, aluminium woodgrain requires only a wipe-down with water when required, saving Council on maintenance costs.
The frames of the Aria Seats, and the Cafe Settings, are powdercoated in Textura Deep Ocean, for additional easy-care benefits. The Textura range is anti-mar with a teflon-like textured finish, making it easy to clean.
