Georges River Council has delivered a new youth and recreation facility for the community in Penshurst, Southern Sydney NSW, with a quirky skate landscape designed by Convic.

Council received $1 million towards the project from the NSW Government’s Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund.

Architect Angus Thomas, from Convic, said the overall vision of a flowy street-style skate park design connects to the wider precinct with netball court and recreation spaces.

Street Furniture Australia’s ChillOUT Tree creates shady spaces to rest, powered to offer device charging for phones. Each Spandek roof is finished with a custom paint colour for extra weathering protection. The shelters are furnished with Linea Platforms for skaters to take a break.

Thomas said, “The furniture selection looked to incorporate seating and shade at specific spectator rest points and add to the overall unique identity.”

Plinth-fixed Linea Seats with Wood Without Worry aluminium Spotted Gum battens soften the concrete along the netball court terraces, inviting spectators to view the action.

Linea DDA Settings throughout the project provide places to sit, dine and rest.

Thomas said, “The precinct has been well received, the skate community have commended the skate layout and others are enjoying the smooth competition spec netball court area.”
